Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington Unites in Unprecedented Support for Historic Temple Pratishtha
Patrika Lekhan Event Puts Param Pratishtha Parva in High Gear
In a display of unwavering faith and generosity, the Jain Society of Metropolitan Washington (JSMW) demonstrated remarkable commitment by raising substantial funds during its Patrika Lekhan event over the March 15-16 weekend towards the Pratishtha Mahotsav of its new Jain Temple in Beltsville, Maryland. This remarkable achievement, accomplished by a small but deeply devoted community of approximately 700 families, underscores the Jain principle of seva (selfless service) and a commitment to preserving and promoting Jainism for future generations.
Every aspect of the temple, from the intricately carved murtis (idols) of revered Tirthankars to the meditative spaces designed for reflection, represents a path toward inner peace. The Pratishtha Mahotsav (inauguration ceremony) is scheduled for May 31 – June 1, 2025.
What makes this fundraising milestone truly extraordinary is the depth of sacrifice and dedication demonstrated by JSMW’s members. “The energy in the room was electrifying,” said Vishal Mehta, President of JSMW. “We are a small community, but our unity and commitment to Jain principles drive us to achieve the impossible. This temple is not just a structure, it is a legacy of faith, culture, and compassion that will serve generations to come.”
“Beyond being a spiritual place, this new temple will serve as a center for education,” said Dr. Gita Shah, Chairperson of JSMW’s Board of Trustees. “With a dedicated Pathshala, we are ensuring that young Jains have a space to learn and carry forward the timeless teachings of Jain philosophy for generations to come.”
With this latest milestone, JSMW is now in the final phase of planning leading up to the grand Pratishtha celebrations.
