Meaning & Importance of Navpad Oli
It is one of the most important Parva / religious festival of the Jain community. Navpad Oli comes twice in a year. The first one falls in the bright fortnight of Ashwina month (September/October) and the second during the bright fortnight of Chaitra month (March/April). The devotees observe Ayambil tapa during nine days of Navpad Oli along with a special kind of worship, holy recitation and meditation in honor of the Navpad. The word ‘Navpad’ means nine supreme posts of the universe – Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyay, Sadhu, Darshan (right belief), Jnan (right knowledge), Charitra (right action) and Tapa (right austerity)
Jain literature (Kalpasutra) indicates that Navpad Oli is Shaswati, meaning permanant. Navpad Oli festival exists in all time cycles (past, present, and future). This provides significant importance to the Navpad Oli. The story of Shripal and Mayanasundari are connected with this observance.
We should try to do Ayambil during these auspicious days.
